Senior Occupational Therapist - Permanent

Your new role
Southend Council are looking to appoint a full time, permanent Senior Occupational Therapist.
The new Senior OT will be appointed to lead Able 2 to continue and develop this innovative way of working and to share it with wider teams.

ABLE2 is a successful part of the OT team which has demonstrated a positive impact on peoples lives and resulted in significant cost savings and compliments from those who access it. The team take a wider view of an individual's needs and are able to reduce care, restore lost function and encourage motivation and participation in living life. They work in a strengths based way, alongside a person to focus on their aims for excellence in care. Connecting them to the local community and identifying ways for living their life as independently as possible. The OT will focus on what is important to the person, their strengths and goals and what can be changed e.g. care being replaced with new equipment or advice and new methods or change in care calls (generally reductions).

Along with the Team Manager, you will support the leadership, management and performance of an Occupational Therapy team with the aim to deliver Occupational Therapy assessments and appropriate intervention in the right place at the right time.

Undertaking complex OT assessments whilst providing leadership in service delivery and support the Team Manager in managing budgets, improving quality in assessment, care planning and reviews.

Within this position, hybrid working opportunities are available. However, you are required to be onsite at the Civic Centre a minimum of 2 days a week.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this position you must be able to work in the UK, have a recognised Occupational Therapy qualification and be registered with the HCPC.

You are required to have 3+ post qualified experience within an OT physical setting and have evidence of supporting students to become qualified.

You will need to be an enthusiastic and passionate occupational therapist who has a range of skills and knowledge which enables you to work effectively with our residents.Skills

  • Strong assessment and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to develop close working relationships with the community and local services/providers
  • Ability to work in a team and engage and participate within each service area.
  • Robust clinical reasoning in line with evidence-based practice
  • Ability to carry out strength-based and proportionate assessments
  • A willingness to learn and develop yourself and bring your ideas to the table

Knowledge

  • Robust understanding of the Care Act 2014 and how this applies to your assessment, intervention and outcomes.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding within the Care Act and the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Broad knowledge of medical conditions and how they impact the person and their life experience.
  • Familiarity with moving and handling practices and legislation
  • Understanding of the Social Model of Disability and occupational therapy within a social service setting.
