Warehouse Shift Manager

Irlam Associates are proud to be representing one of the UK's largest FMCG suppliers to support in their search for an experienced Shift Manager, to join their team at their site near Middleton, where you would be responsible for managing day to day operations within a very busy, 24 hour retail fulfilment site, driving efficiencies and devising and implementing a strategic approach where the customer always comes first.

Monday – Friday 14:00-22:00 with some flexibility required

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist the General Manager in the everyday running of the DC.
  • Daily Shift Handover to Night Shift Manager to ensure all daily workloads will be completed.
  • Work with Management teams to ensure an efficient and unified team operation.
  • Manage sickness absence and return to work procedures for all team members.
  • Manage discipline and performance of all team members.
  • Oversee allocation of holiday entitlement to warehouse operatives to maintain a balanced workforce capable of meeting demands.
  • Recruit new employees in line with the needs of the operation.
  • Daily briefings with junior management & operatives to ensure cohesive operation of teams.
  • Implementing and monitoring KPI's in line with the requirements of the DC and with a view to continuous improvement.
  • Mentor, coach and develop members of the team to help them fulfil their roles and progress within the company.
  • Making sure all health and safety guidelines are adhered to within the warehouse to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Keeping all areas of warehouse clean and organised.
  • Assist the General Manager in all aspects of forward planning.
  • Identifying problems/opportunities in operational processes procedures and systems.
  • Make proposals for improvement and implementation.
  • Regular review of workload and capacities.
  • Identify potential risks to the operation and formulate ideas to reduce risk.
  • Plan using forecasts to ensure safe and efficient operation capable of meeting the demands of the business moving forward.
  • Make proposals for improvement and implementation.
  • Regular review of weekly workload and capacities of team.

Key Skills:

  • Leadership experience in within a busy warehouse & distribution environment.
  • Experience with warehouse management systems, order management, voice picking systems etc.
  • Excellent communication, team working, motivational and leadership skills.
  • Flexible in your approach.
  • Use of Microsoft Excel for spreadsheets and records as well as WMS.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
