Empowering Learning is currently recruiting for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a renowned independent therapeutic school that provides specialist support to children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This school is committed to creating a nurturing environment where each child can thrive emotionally and academically.

Role Overview:

In this pivotal role, you will work 1:1 or 1:2 with children who require tailored support due to their SEMH challenges. This role is focused on providing emotional and behavioural support, building trust and relationships, and creating a positive, therapeutic learning environment for each student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support to children with SEMH needs, helping them navigate their emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to foster their emotional well-being and engagement in learning.
  • Work closely with the wider staff and therapeutic team to ensure students receive a holistic approach to their development.
  • Assist in creating and implementing therapeutic strategies to help students manage their emotions and behaviours within the classroom.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet the specific emotional and social needs of each student.
  • Promote a positive, supportive learning environment and contribute to the overall well-being of the students.

Requirements:

  • Experience in working with children with SEMH needs is essential.
  • Strong communication, patience, and empathy to build rapport with students facing social and emotional difficulties.
  • An understanding of therapeutic approaches to support children's SEMH development.
  • Resilience and the ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively.
  • Experience working in a 1:1 or small group setting with students who need extra emotional and behavioural support.
