About the role

Better Society Capital has an important role to play in building understanding of social investment in the UK. We are currently looking for a 1st line IT Support Apprentice to help our IT team further improve its support to our 90 staff and assist us in bringing more of our IT provision in-house to better connect to all parts of Big Society Capital. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about our mission to improve lives across the UK and who can bring enthusiasm and commitment to the role they will play in delivering that mission.

A Typical Day

  • Log IT support calls from Better Society Capital staff that have not been logged directly on the Helpdesk ticketing system.
  • Assess and prioritise incoming IT support tickets, resolving issues within the scope of 1st line support or escalating as needed.
  • Assist the IT Team and third-party providers with small-scale IT project tasks under the guidance of the Head of IT or Senior IT and Operations Officer.
  • Identify and resolve general IT hardware, software, network, and infrastructure issues within Better Society Capital, focusing initially on Windows laptops/PCs and potentially expanding to server/network infrastructure problems over time.
  • Support in testing new/upgraded IT systems and software as instructed.
  • Coordinate the setup and configuration of laptops and user accounts for new staff members, as well as decommissioning these resources for departing employees.
  • Configure Microsoft 365 settings as needed, including access permissions.
  • Assist in maintaining the IT Asset Register.
  • Develop an understanding of technical and infrastructure issues that lead to user support tickets.

You must have

  • GCSE English & Maths 4-9 (C-A*) or equivalent

Skills needed

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Some experience of recent Microsoft Office software (e.g. Microsoft 365 applications, Office 2016/2019/2021), is desirable.
  • Enthusiasm for IT and its potential to improve many aspects of work life.
  • Proactive in identifying problems and potential solutions.
  • The willingness to learn and implement new ideas and methods
  • Experience with providing excellent customer service is highly desirable.
  • A strong desire to learn and develop personally and professionally.
