The Role

This role is part time and consists of 30-hours per week and they have some flexibility with this role.

The Finance Officer will be required to work as an integral part of a small cross functional finance team. The post holder will provide support to the Management Accountant and Head of Finance. To provide a high level of customer service to all stakeholders - particularly the department and project teams within our client.

To maintain an accurate, complete and timely financial accounting system in accordance with the Charity's financial procedures and regulations; provide the associated financial administration efficiently and effectively; monthly journal posting and assist in the preparation of the monthly payroll.

Key Tasks

General:

  • Complete maintenance of the organisation's income and expenditure ledgers.
  • Maintain and prepare prepayments and accruals schedules and journals.
  • Assisting in the year end and statutory accounts.
  • Monthly payroll administration.

Maintain Income & Expenditure Ledgers:

  • Responsible for the prompt processing of purchase ledger invoices in coding matching checking coding invoices into the finance system.
  • Obtain management authority, process weekly payment run, and upload internet banking.

Transactions & Journals:

  • Maintain and prepare accurate and appropriate prepayment accruals and depreciation schedules.
  • Prepare and implement journal entries.
  • Provide relevant assistance to the finance department in preparation of the annual statutory financial accounts, external audit working papers including liaising directly with the audits as and when required.

Bank & Balance Reconciliation:

  • Monitor the organisations bank balance daily.
  • Address anomalies immediately and resolve promptly to prevent issues manifesting.
  • Carryout regular documented and evidence reconciliation of debtors, creditors and key control accounts.

Systems:

  • Ensure the robustness of all finance systems considering any required enhancements and upgrades required.
  • Review the financial management needs of the organisation and propose new systems and processes to support these needs where appropriate.

Communication:

  • Capability to work effectively with other departments and teams, communicating financial insights and recommendations to support decision making and achieve organisational goals.
  • Commitment to communicating financial information with honesty, integrity, and transparency, adhering to ethical standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicating efficiently and effectively within time constraints, prioritising tasks, and deadlines to meet organisational goals.
  • Cultivating and maintain professional relationships, both internally with colleagues and externally.

Experience, Qualifications & Training Requirements

  • Experience of using finance systems and reporting.
  • Excellent working knowledge of accounting systems.
  • Advanced Excel functions.

Personal Skills & Competencies

  • A clear communicator able to talk to people at all levels.
  • Proven experience in a similar role.
  • In depth understanding of budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Excellent analytical and interpretive ability.
