BI/ ETL Developer Data Engineer

We are looking for an experienced BI developer specializing in Data Warehousing & ETL development, the candidate must have used the latest cloud tech. Our data warehouse capability is used well beyond BI, powering our core operations such as Marketing, Finance and Product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimise Teradata and Snowflake ETL an ELT pipelines with complex data transformations
  • To develop extraction routines from multiple data sources including APIs, csv files, relational and non-relational databases, cloud storage buckets including S3 and GCP
  • Collaborate with other teams within the organization and be able to devise the technical solution as it relates to the business & technical requirements
  • Will be expected to mentor colleagues and be proactive in developing colleague skill sets to have a better understanding of ETL an ELT pipelines
  • Maintain documentation for all processes implemented
  • Adhere to and suggest improvements to coding standards, best practices, and contribute to the improvement of these best practices

Specialist skills and experience
Essential:

  • Veteran ETL developer having developed large volume data pipelines on several TB sized data structures in traditional normalised data warehouses like Teradata & Oracle and cloud Big Data warehouses like Big Query & Snowflake
  • Extensive knowledge of multi-tier, high availability, Google cloud and on-premise data engineering solutions in a complex multi-cloud, multi-enterprise environment
  • Strong Data Modelling experience
  • Demonstratable experience of ETL and ELT technologies like ODI, Informatica, Airflow and SSAS
  • Experience optimising complex SQL queries to gain highly optimised performance
  • Experience working in large enterprise environments as part of DW or BI functions
  • Advanced SQL and PL/SQL and ability to write performance optimised queries
  • Highly proficient in Shell Scripting in a Linux environment
  • Essential ability and interest in understanding data from a business perspective
  • Ability to communicate with business stakeholders and developers
  • Strong development governance understanding, design to operate driven

Desirable:

  • Python programming
  • Demonstratable experience of Hadoop HDFS, SQL Server, MDS, Hive and Presto
  • API Parsing using JSON, HTML
  • PowerBI dashboard development
  • Solid stakeholder management, with customer service focus
  • Logical thinker
  • Able to deal efficiently with operational incidents
  • Collaboration: Communicates effectively with a positive impact
  • High attention to detail and appreciate the importance of data integrity
