What you will be doing as a Health and Safety Assistant at Spicerhaart in Colchester

In this role you will be working under the direction and guidance of the Head of Health and Safety (HHS).

Tasks will include [but are not limited to] the following:

  • Maintaining systems and databases to ensure comprehensive compliance across all health and safety areas, including accident and incident reporting, audit results, monthly safety checks, and action plan tracking.
  • Reviewing inspections and observation of working practices.
  • Coordinating and administering health and safety training programs for all employees, liaising with Human Resources and the Training Management Team to ensure records of such training are maintained and readily available.
  • Supporting the creation, distribution, and delivery of safety materials.
  • Assisting in the development and revision of health and safety procedures as directed by the HHS.
  • Providing support and administration for emergency response strategies, including fire drills, evacuation plans, and first aid readiness.
  • Ensuring all accidents and near misses are properly recorded so they can be investigated and that corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
  • Working with appointed HS&E consultants to create schedules and ensure all risk assessments, fire risk assessments, audits, and other country-specific surveys are carried out as planned.
  • Following up with departments on any remediation actions required after Health & Safety visits.
  • Working closely with other departments, and key business partners to better detect, investigate, report, and resolve internal and external safety events.
  • Monitoring updates related to HS&E, ensuring the organisation remains compliant with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Any other HS&E tasks deemed appropriate by the company.

The skills you will need to be a Health and Safety Assistant at Spicerhaart in Colchester

  • Proven experience as a Safety Assistant / Advisor or a similar role.
  • Health & Safety Qualification at Level 3 or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety as a minimum.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite. Excel knowledge is essential.
  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented mind-set.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to safety.
  • Full UK Driving Licence
