Actuarial Analyst

The Strategy Planning and Performance Team (SPP) are looking for an Actuarial Analyst who wants to continue their actuarial career by partnering with underwriters and key business functions in this varied and exciting role. As an Actuarial Analyst you will form an integral part of this evolving team, which provides support to the entire Insurance Division business.

The individual in this role will have the opportunity to support and provide actuarial analysis for a wide range of classes of business including Property, Financial Lines, Casualty, Marine and Energy, covering both Lloyd's and Company business.

Your Role:

  • Input into the end-to-end business planning process for designated lines of business, including derivation of loss ratios using varied actuarial techniques
  • Assisting with strategic portfolio level profitability analysis and thematic reviews, building complete understanding of all factors driving underlying performance.
  • Scenario testing and producing as-if analysis for portfolios undergoing growth or remediation
  • Carrying out claims inflation reviews and data driven analysis
  • Involvement in capital model underwriting risk parameterisation process
  • Liaison with Accumulation Management team on modelling outputs and their use in SPP team processes
  • Continued personal development – through DataCamp subscription or other learning platforms
  • Assisting with DUA and broker profitability reviews.
  • Case Pricing – although not explicitly part of the Strategy Planning and Performance function, continued pricing development would be available from individual risk pricing across all lines of business, applying both deterministic and stochastic techniques.

About You:

  • Some previous commercial experience within an actuarial function, e.g. pricing or reserving
  • Undertaking actuarial studies with progress being made through core principles exams
  • Highly numerate and analytical individual, with a proven track record of success
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to take initiative, manage your own workload and multitask, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Logical mind set with the ability to analyse trends and make decisions as a result
  • Good Excel skills, has the ability to interpret and summarise large data sets to quickly begin to identify trends and profitability
  • SQL experience is preferable – confidence manipulating and reconciling large data sets
