Assistant Trust and Tax Manager

Join an international law firm that specializes in Private Capital. This role is part of the Trusts and Probate team in the Tax, Trusts, and Succession group based in Cheltenham, working collaboratively with UK and international offices on a variety of projects.

The firm is seeking a skilled Assistant Manager to work with private clients alongside partners in the Tax, Trusts, & Succession group. This role offers significant career growth within a recognized expert team, focusing on trust/estate administration and tax advice.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a diverse portfolio of clients, ensuring all trust and probate matters are handled efficiently.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing tailored advice and support.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for client inquiries, addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Provide expert advice on tax and succession planning to clients, helping them make informed decisions.
  • Develop and implement strategies to minimize tax liabilities and ensure smooth succession transitions.
  • Prepare and review trust accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Complete and submit tax returns on behalf of clients, managing deadlines effectively.
  • Communicate with HMRC to resolve any issues or discrepancies related to trust accounts and tax returns.
  • Assess and calculate the tax liabilities of trustees, providing clear and concise reports.
  • Advise trustees on their tax obligations and strategies for minimizing liabilities.
  • Organise and prepare for trustees' meetings, including the creation of agendas and necessary documentation.
  • Participate in meetings, presenting relevant information and providing expert advice on trust management.
  • Oversee the processing of payments and distributions from trusts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain detailed records of all transactions and ensure compliance with trust deeds and legal requirements.
  • Conduct regular reviews of investment portfolios, assessing performance and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Analyse and interpret trust deeds, ensuring a thorough understanding of the terms and conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory obligations.

Requirements:

  • STEP qualification (preferred but not essential)
  • Strong understanding of accounts and taxation (experience with Trusts is flexible; ability to learn on the job is crucial)
  • Experience with computerized accounts and Trust and Tax software
  • Proven team-working skills and ability to mentor junior staff

You will be required to attend the Cheltenham office at least 3 times a week. Part-time employment could be considered for the right professional.
