Salary: To £50,000 - £63,000 + Home working, private health insurance including dental and eye care, flexible working patterns

A Clinical Safety Officer is immediately required to work for the UK's leading provider of Clinical Safety Officer and DCB 0129/0160 consulting services. We are recruiting a talented clinician to join an existing team of 16 Clinical Safety Officers to operate as an independent CSO supporting over 150 software manufacturers and healthcare organisations.

Skills / Experience Required:

  • Experienced clinician currently registered with a professional body (eg. Nurse, Clinical Pharmacist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Midwife)
  • Experience of either the manufacture or implementation of health IT systems in the NHS
  • Technical ability with an aptitude for understanding new technologies and learning technical concepts - must be prepared to gather, understand and discuss technical information which might be relevant to the safety of a particular digital health solution.
  • Consultancy skills and be able to manage multiple complex projects and customers simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain to customers complex procedural concepts and techniques both verbally and in written form.
  • Excellent writing skills to construct documentation using language of the utmost precision and clarity.

Job Description

  • To act in the capacity of Clinical Safety Officer, as set out in Safety Standards DCB 0129 and DCB 0160, for software manufacturers and healthcare organisations.
  • To elicit the necessary information from customers to allow an informed and justified clinical risk assessment of a health IT product (or its implementation) to take place.
  • To execute a clinical risk assessment according to a systematic method to ensure that foreseeable hazards are identified and documented.
  • To accurately estimate and evaluate the level of clinical risk associated with the hazards.
  • To advise customers on potential controls when unacceptable levels of clinical risk are detected.
  • To formulate the documentary evidence and deliverables to support compliance with DCB 0129 and DCB 0160 and other related Standards.
  • To create the documentation using the upmost level of fluency, accuracy and clarity.
  • To understand where other areas of regulation may apply. This might include, but not be limited to, the Medical Device Directive/Regulation, GDPR and the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit.
  • To manage projects in an organised manner and make it clear to customers what input materials they are required to provide. To report to the line manager any threats to project delivery as early as possible.
  • To ensure that projects are delivered within the budgeted effort.
  • To work with customers to undertake on-going Clinical Safety Officer activities including (but not limited to) the safety assessment of product changes, examination of reported defects and the analysis of safety incidents.
  • To maintain a good working relationship with customers and colleagues through the employment of sound communication skills.
  • To keep clinical knowledge up to date and undertake the necessary activities to remain registered and in good standing with a professional clinical body.

As Clinical Safety Officer you will quickly become an expert in high demand working with the leading digital health providers and NHS Trusts to solve their assurance challenges. With such a wide variety of clients, the you will need to find different ways to do familiar things, be ready to learn and be prepared for a new challenge every day.

Whilst experience of working as a Clinical Safety Offer or on DCB 0129/0160 compliance projects in the past would be preferred, extensive training will be provided on the precise methods and techniques involved.
