Bushcraft Assistant

  • Salary: £12.65 an hour
  • Hours: 18.5 hours per week

We are seeking a Bushcraft Assistant with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills to join our team at Sherwood Pines. The successful candidate will work alongside the Bushcraft Ranger and volunteers to deliver a safe and engaging bushcraft programme. This role requires practical outdoor experience, strong communication skills, and knowledge of Health and Safety, particularly when working with children, young people, and vulnerable adults. An enhanced DBS check will be required.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Support the Bushcraft Ranger in delivering outdoor sessions at the woodland basecamp for a diverse audience including children, adults, families, corporate groups, and people with additional needs.
  • Deliver birthday party activities at Sherwood base camp and around the Forest Centre.
  • Maintain the bushcraft base camp, ensuring it is in safe and good working order, and carry out small maintenance tasks.
  • Prepare and use risk assessments for all bushcraft activities, adhering to Forestry England policies.
  • Collect data and event feedback, reporting to the Central District Learning Manager.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and collaborate with the Bushcraft Ranger and District Learning Manager.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Competent in using IT, particularly Microsoft Office packages.
  • Experience in handling confidential information with sensitivity.
  • Practical experience in environmental or conservation projects, including the use of hand tools and maintenance tasks.
  • Proven team working skills.
  • Previous customer-facing experience delivering quality services to a diverse customer base.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of Forestry England policies, experience in public engagement, maintaining recreational facilities, and a qualification in First Aid.
