Surrey Fire and Rescue Service

Surrey's Firefighters are trained to deal with a range of emergency situations, not just fires and road traffic collisions. These activities include working with other agencies to respond to widespread flooding and other water rescue incidents or dealing with emergencies that may involve hazardous materials. SFRS delivers services to ensure our communities are safer, whether it be preventing and protecting people from fire and other risks or responding swiftly and effectively to the emergencies that occur.

The Role

The Data and Digital Team is responsible for SFRS's core data analysis and reports, both of which are used in support of service delivery and improvement. We also lead on the Digital Strategy and related IT projects and data governance; there are around a dozen people in the team at the moment.

Your role as our Performance and Intelligence Specialist role is to visualise and analyse service performance data and management information such as operational response data and community fire safety work streams, through to sickness and absence data. You will analyse and present this information to a high level of quality and in a format as required by the customer.

You will also be a key person in making the following areas work happen:

  • Support renewal of the Service's performance management framework, particularly around benchmarking, target setting for station and borough plans and annual update of service plans
  • Take a lead on responding to requests for management information, provide national data returns and support Freedom of Information requests
  • Work as part of the team that updates the Service's Community Risk Profile which is our assessment of the risks facing communities in Surrey based on our analysis of available data

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position your application will clearly evidence:

  • Substantial Tableau experience or equivalent visualisation software
  • Knowledge of FME for the automation of data preparation
  • Experience of database management, including writing SQL scripts
  • Excellent data analysis skills and knowledge of data analysis systems
  • Ability to accurately understand requirements and effectively work with others to deliver products in a timely way
  • Self-motivation and ability to deliver regular reports without prompting
