About the Role

In this rewarding role, as Safeguarding Officer, you will provide a high quality, responsive service to students faced with welfare and safeguarding issues, in accordance with statutory responsibilities.

You will work closely with the College Safeguarding Leads when making referrals to appropriate agencies. You will also be a first point of contact to provide an advisory service for staff when dealing with student welfare and safeguarding issues and act as a first point of contact providing a confidential information and advice for all students on safeguarding related concerns including child protection disclosures.

An important part of the Safeguarding Officer role is to monitor and manage safeguarding referrals through internal information systems (ProMonitor) ensuring interventions are timely and responsive, in line with child protection legislation and statutory guidance; Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE). You will therefore ensure child protection records relating to student safeguarding information are accurately recorded and stored in line with statutory guidance.

Critically you will establish, maintain and develop effective relationships which engage students, especially those identified as being at risk of leaving their course or failing to achieve, to remove potential barriers, so that assistance and support can be offered within a professional relationship on an ongoing basis if appropriate.

You will...

You should have recent experience of working in safeguarding in an education or community setting. Experience of youth engagement, advice and guidance or education with young people. Ideally, your experience will be within post-16 education (FE) and involve managing a range of safeguarding cases.

You will have a good working knowledge of confidentiality, child protection, data protection/consent and anti-discriminatory and trauma informed practice.

You will possess Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy (or equivalent), Level 3 Safeguarding qualification and have achieved a further Level 3 qualification in a general vocation (but this is not essential).

You will work closely with the Student Support colleagues including Campus Safeguarding Leads, Attendance and Pastoral Officers, Mentors, Personal Development Coordinators and Curriculum staff, along with wider college teams.

You will be line managed by the Group Safeguarding Lead, who will give you operational direction.
