Teaching Assistant Maternity Cover

Location: Taverham, Norwich NR8 6PJ

Salary: £10,698 - £11,257 per annum (SCP4 £23,114 - SCP6 £23,893 FTE)

Hours: 20 hours per week, 9am-1pm Monday - Friday

Start date: From September 2024

The Infant and Nursery School is a member of the Education Trust. The Trust is an expanding multi-academy trust with 10 primary and 7 secondary schools.

The Infant and Nursery School has recently been graded Outstanding by Ofsted in December 2023. They work within a wonderful supportive community, working closely with parents, other local schools, the church and a local care home.

They pride themselves on knowing children and staff very well, so all learning and support is tailored to meet need and opportunities are given for everyone to flourish.

The Role

They are looking for a hard-working and enthusiastic person with high standards and the ability to communicate and interact effectively with others as part of their school as a Teaching Assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with individuals or small groups of pupils in the classroom under the direct supervision of teaching staff and provide feedback to the teacher.
  • Support pupils to understand instructions.
  • Support independent learning and inclusion of all pupils.
  • Working flexibly with students with a full range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) enabling them to access the curriculum.
  • Support the teacher in behaviour management and keeping pupils on task.
  • Support a restorative and therapeutic approach to behaviour.
  • Support pupils in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate, alongside recording these where appropriate.
  • Prepare and clear up learning environment and resources, including photocopying, filing and the display and presentation of pupils work and contribute to maintaining a safe environment.
  • Support children in their play.
  • Inform the class teacher of significant issues which have arisen at lunchtime, recording any significant issues in the class record files or on special forms for children.
  • Refer any concerns regarding the safeguarding of children to the designated person or alternate.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Applicants will need at least level 2 passes in English and Maths, or equivalent, good communication skills and an interest in working with children and young people
  • A good level of literacy and numeracy.
  • Adhere to the school policies, undertaking training as required
  • Be computer literate, or willing to learn
  • The ability to communicate clearly and tactfully using appropriate methods and an awareness of the impact of your own communication on others
  • Able to maintain positive relationships with all and able to work as an effective and flexible part of a team; willing to change methods of work and routines to benefit the team
