Governance Officer

Our client is looking to recruit a Governance Officer to work within the education sector, on a permanent, salaried part-time basis. The position is based in Wiltshire and offers 11 hours per week, on a flexible basis, some site-based and some working from home. As this is based in the education sector, the position is based on working 39 weeks per year, including occasional training days. Offering excellent employee benefits, this well-established organisation is a fully comprehensive school in Wiltshire, including a SEN unit and additional external training services.

Offering a salary up to £7,255 per annum, this position is suited to a candidate with previous experience in minute-taking, working with Microsoft Teams, managing, and updating online portals, and some expertise in attending/briefing Governors Disciplinary Committee meetings.

This is a varied role and offers plenty of responsibility, requiring exceptional levels of verbal and written communication skills. You will provide advice on a range of constitutional matters, duties, and powers, working with professional and authoritative bodies and associations. You will receive full training on broad-based current education and UK legislation, ensuring that the information received and delivered is correct and compliant. There is a need to execute strict confidentiality around highly sensitive matters including the school, the students and the teaching fraternity, therefore previous similar employment experience is required.

As a Governance Officer, you will be responsible for producing, maintaining, and assisting the Chair of Governors in managing the governing body work planner to ensure correct educational and information papers and information are received. You will need exceptional working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) with the ability to organise meetings, events, and agendas on behalf of the wider organisation.

If you have a further qualification in administration or governance, this would be ideal, along with, problem-solving skills, plenty of organisation skills, the ability to manage time-led meetings and timelines, and having a confident, professional, and persuasive mature. An up-to-date and in-depth understanding of best safeguarding policy and practice is required; therefore, you may have worked within education and or/public sector, and/or health and/or social care.
