Higher Level Teaching Assistant (Outreach)

The Role
To work in an Outreach capacity supporting schools with students who may be experiencing difficulties, or who may be moving between schools or provisions.
To complement the work at the School and support the mainstream schools of Mendip, through supporting pupils to engage in learning, ensuring safeguarding and promoting physical and emotional wellbeing.
Main duties and Core responsibilities:
- In an outreach capacity and co-ordinated by the Partnership and Outreach Lead, work with pupils or school staff in supporting inclusion in the Mendip area
- Promote the pupil's independence, self-esteem and social inclusion by working with pupils and staff
- Support pupils individually or in groups, so they can access the curriculum, take part in learning and experience a sense of achievement
- Support pupils individually or in groups, so that they are able to succeed in social interactions, build confidence, self-esteem and friendship groups
- Work with staff and pupils' schools to support inclusion and support all stakeholders
- Be pupil focussed and work in a positive way that enables them to achieve
- Deliver programmes of work with young people in mainstream schools
- Work to support mainstream staff support students better
Skills and Qualifications
- GCSE English & maths grade A-C
- Experience of working with vulnerable young people in a mainstream setting
- Resilient and dependable and committed to high quality teaching and learning
- Excellent interpersonal skills and works well in a small team
- Organised and hard working – willing and able to go the extra mile
- Firmly believes that every child, irrespective of background and starting point, can be successful in learning
- Imaginative and can create opportunities to promote children's social and emotional development.
- Committed to social inclusion and raising children's achievement
- Subscribes to, and can demonstrate, a clear understanding of nurturing principles
- Knowledge or experience of delivering social and emotional skills programmes
- Able to foster good relationships with pupils, parents/carers and a range of professional colleagues
- Can provide in-class and 1:1 support for pupils with social, emotional and mental health barriers to learning
- A high level of personal resilience, a positive attitude and flexible approach
- Willing to continue and develop practice through self-directed professional development
