Assistant Gardener

Summary

Prior Park Landscape Garden is an iconic Georgian garden overlooking the World Heritage Site of Bath. This opportunity is to work in a 30 acre urban garden designed to work with nature and the surrounding landscape. It tells the story of gardens in the c18th century, with a wholesome history of follies and temples and a continuous flow of water throughout the site in several lakes and cascades.

This is a fixed term contract, three days a week, Wednesday to Friday.

Interviews will be held at Prior Park on 12th August.

As Assistant Gardener, you'll be working with a team to deliver the day-to-day care of the garden and maintain high presentation standards. This role will include a range of practical tasks to develop, improve and look after the garden and contribute to the delivery of projects.

What it's like to work here

Prior Park is a garden property within a larger portfolio in and around Bath. The Bath team is a small team, always supportive of each other. We have a strong volunteer base of garden, archaeology and crayfish volunteers.

You will be part of a larger Outdoor Team consisting of different garden teams, countryside rangers and wildlife manager, all under a Garden and Outdoor Manager. Occasional knowledge sharing and team building exercises happen around the portfolio to support your development

In this role, you'll report to the Head Gardener.

What you'll be doing

Daily responsibilities may include assisting with the maintenance of shrubs and shrubberies, strimming, lawn mowing, brush cutting, hedge cutting, mulching, path maintenance, lake maintenance and any other garden-related tasks.

You'll be an excellent team player, working alongside colleagues and volunteers, helping to create a great place to work. You'll engage with visitors, answering a variety of garden-related questions and talking about what you are doing with pride. We're looking for someone with a practical approach to work, getting the day-to-day work done and a passion for plants.

We use a wide range of machinery and equipment to help us get our work done and training will be provided.
