Job Advert: Project Manager for Oxford Street Programme

Are you an experienced Project Manager with a passion for transforming urban spaces? We are seeking a dynamic individual to oversee the development and execution of projects within the prestigious Oxford Street Programme. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of the most high-profile public realm initiatives in the city.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage highway/public realm projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
  • Interpret and review programme schedules and cost estimates.
  • Negotiate contract terms and manage third-party works, including private developments and utilities.
  • Oversee the design development process, ensuring all designs are feasible, maintainable, and align with programme goals.
  • Engage with the public and stakeholders, providing clear communication and effective management of expectations.
  • Ensure transparent and meticulous governance, contributing to risk management, budget tracking, and progress reporting.

Candidate Evaluation Criteria:

  • Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of technical, professional, legal, and commercial issues related to highways/public realm project development and delivery.
  • Project Management Experience: Demonstrated experience in delivering comprehensive highway/public realm projects, preferably within a local authority setting.
  • Contract Management: Proficiency in managing projects under NEC or other relevant construction contracts.
  • Programme Scheduling: Skilled in interpreting and reviewing programme schedules for highway/public realm schemes.
  • Negotiation and Cost Estimation: Confident in negotiating contract terms and reviewing cost estimates for highway/public realm schemes.
  • Practical Construction Knowledge: Solid understanding of highway/public realm construction and coordination of third-party works.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience in the public realm, transport, highways, or design fields.
  • Strong organisational skills with a keen attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Office 365.

Work Environment:

  • The role requires a minimum of two office days at our central city location on Monday and Tuesday. However, flexibility is essential, with the successful candidate expected to work in the office or on-site as necessary to attend meetings and fulfill all role aspects.
  • You will be part of a dedicated team, working alongside a head of contract, programme and engagement and strategy, other project managers, a quantity surveyor, and a site supervisor.
