MHST Wellbeing Youth Worker - £26,500 - £29,500 per annum (Salaries vary depending on experiences)

Hours – 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Service – Children and Young People.

What You'll Be Doing:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Children, Young People and Families team. The team focuses on improving children and young people's mental health by ensuring those with early signs of distress can always access the right help, in the right setting, when they need it.

The postholder will be working predominantly within schools, as part of the Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) schools in Oxfordshire. MHST site offices can be used in Oxford and Banbury.

Some of the core duties include:

  • To be responsible for supporting the emotional and social wellbeing of children and young people on their caseload.
  • To offer support and guidance to young people who are presenting mild to moderate mental health and well-being needs. You will also offer support to schools and those developing a high level of engagement with teachers and other agencies involved in the young person's life.
  • To work directly in and with schools, supporting the delivery of the MHST model and its key requirements and build resilience in school age young people, school staff and their identification of support needs.
  • To work with the young people on their caseload to increase access to community services and employment, education and training opportunitiesopportunities.
  • To ensure young people are introduced to community services and are facilitated/supported to increase likelihood of engagement, alongside supporting community groups to integrate the young person and support well-being.
  • To increase awareness of and strengthen the young person's personal support networks, reducing reliance on professional support networks.
  • To increase the young person's confidence with using strategies to identify and manage mental health and well-being challenges as they arise or be confident to seek support (and from where) at the earliest opportunity.

Essential criteria:

  • Health or Social Care NVQ Level 3/ Advanced level/or equivalent qualifications (or working towards.)
  • Knowledge of the personalised care approach and mental health and well-being.
  • Knowledge of community development approaches.
  • Experience of working directly in at least two of the following settings; school, community youth work context, CAMHS, CYP social care, learning support or public health/health improvement (including unpaid work).
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Proficiency in Office programs (incl. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and using data bases. Ability to manage multiple emails and coordinate calendars.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with young people, their families, carers, community groups, partner agencies and stakeholders.
  • Able to support people in a way that inspires trust and confidence, motivating others to reach their potential.
  • Ability to travel effectively as part of the role as required.
