Mechanical Design Engineer
Location:
Sedgefield or Leeds
Purpose:
Lead mechanical engineering efforts for microwave and RF subsystem projects, overseeing the entire process from design to production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create models and drawings using 3D CAD (Solidworks).
- Manage and control engineering drawings and documentation, ensuring compliance with Drawing Office standards.
- Develop detailed manufacturing documentation and support reliability analysis and testing.
- Handle engineering changes through ECN procedures, adhering to ISO and BS standards.
- Design machined, punched, cast, or molded parts, and explore new suppliers and materials for cost efficiency.
- Participate in design reviews and evaluate mechanical properties like thermal and stress performance using 3D analysis software.
- Design jigs and fixtures, and continuously improve process and maintenance documentation.
- Deploy manufacturing documentation using the company's established systems.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of industrial experience.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D solid modeling (Solidworks preferred).
- Experience with 3D thermal and stress analysis using finite element modeling tools.
- Knowledge of machining, casting, molding, coating, and plating processes, as well as RoHS and WEEE compliance.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Must be able to obtain the necessary security clearance for this role.
