The role

In the role of Construction Coordinator, your duties include maintaining adherence to the UU SACRED principles (Safety, Authorisation, Customer, Right First Time, Environmental and Drinking Water) rules throughout the project's Deliver phase. Additionally, you will be responsible for the onsite client management of the Contractor to ensure we spend customers' money wisely.

You will serve as the primary UU point of escalation for both internal and external stakeholder issues arising from the construction works on low risk, non-complex works. On these projects you will be the key interface between the Project and UU Operations, acting as person Co-ordinating the Work under the UU Work Authorisation procedure. Furthermore, you may be named as the supervisor within the NEC4 Contract, endowed with contractual authority.

For high risk, complex works, the Construction Coordinator will support the (Senior) Construction Manager on undertaking the above duties on site.

Key elements include;

  • Working as part of project teams to deliver elements of the Capital Programme
  • Ensuring the projects are delivered safely to the required outcomes (SACRED, time and cost)
  • To ensure the appropriate coordination of key stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Managing external contractors to achieve the above
  • Undertake routine SACRED audits on construction sites to an agreed programme and process

Key accountabilities

  • Work collaboratively with the Project Manager under the Contract to jointly deliver project outcomes
  • Work as part of a project team consisting of internal and external members to ensure delivery of agreed outcomes against the UU SACRED rules
  • Provide Deliverability support to projects to ensure they can be designed and delivered in a safe manner whilst maximising efficiencies and achieving business objectives
  • Develop, promote and maintain a safety culture to deliver excellent Health and Safety performance on site
  • Develop strong onsite relationships with UU Operations and Contractors to ensure successful project outcomes
  • Manage onsite risks and changes and escalate issues affecting programme / project delivery
  • Manage and deliver reporting of onsite progress against the overall programme directly to appropriate people
  • Ensure statutory approvals are being obtained and adhered to onsite
  • Review the works schedule and method statements
  • Satisfy themselves that the contractor's performance is in accordance with the contract

Skills & experience
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Educated to HNC level or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme or equivalent
  • Experience and track record of delivering construction projects
  • Flexible management style to suit different situations
  • Effective formal / informal communication style
  • Able to prioritise tasks to deliver business targets / objectives
  • Effective internal / external stakeholder management
  • Contract management / commercial awareness
  • Technical awareness / competence in either civil, mechanical, electrical or ICA

It would also be great if you can demonstrate any of the following?**desirable?**criteria:

  • NEC3/4 Accredited Supervisor qualified
  • Working towards being professionally qualified (e.g. CEng, MCIOB, MICE, and MCIWEM)
  • Experience of working within Construction in the water industry
