Mechanical Engineer

The Role

As Mechanical Engineer, you will develop/assure, solutions and designs for Rotating Equipment (pumps, mixers, blowers, etc.), Primary Treatment Technologies (screening, grit removal, equalization, etc.), Secondary Treatment Technologies (chemical treatment, sedimentation, biological, etc.), Tertiary Treatment Technologies (filtration, recycle-reuse, etc.) and other mechanical equipment used in water and wastewater, across both process sites and networks. As a Subject Matter expert (SME), you will utilise your expertise to tackle engineering challenges unique to our industry and provide engineering support including design and technical engineering advice to all areas of UU.

Your expertise will be instrumental in our journey towards achieving UU's ambitious objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee mechanical engineering projects, ensuring alignment with milestones, budget, and United Utilities' standards.
  • Develop and verify design documents, supporting operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Champion safety, implementing best practices throughout project lifecycles.
  • Contribute to United Utilities' Engineering Standards, providing expert design input.
  • Achieve annual engineering targets, optimizing resource allocation and project outcomes.

Skills & Experience:

  • Qualified to degree/HND or equivalent level or have equivalent skills, knowledge and experience.
  • Chartered/Incorporated professional, working towards chartership or equivalent level of expertise.
  • Experience of providing technical advice, influencing and directing the delivery of successful engineering outcomes.
  • Experience producing, understanding and providing critical appraisals of proposed designs and proposed engineering designs and/or demonstable experience producing, understanding and providing mechanical engineering designs and solutions.
  • Hold a current Full UK driving licence.
