Import and Export Compliance Officer

As the Import and Export Compliance Officer, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the commitment to compliance with international trade regulations and customs requirements. This is a hands-on role with primary responsibility to oversee and manage import and export activities while ensuring adherence to all laws and regulations. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop, implement, and monitor compliance programs, ultimately contributing to the efficient and secure movement of goods across borders.

Main Duties

  • Utilise your Import-Export background to ensure sites comply with the relevant Import and Export regulations.
  • Oversight of the preparation, submission and review of import-export documentation including customs declarations, licenses, permits, and shipping records, to ensure accuracy and compliance. Sample check declarations submitted by our customs agents to ensure their accuracy and compliance with the relevant regulations. Liaise with customs agents, Group Tax and if required customs authorities to resolve any non-compliance issues identified.
  • Submission of TSS declarations for the movement of goods from the UK into Northern Ireland. Implement appropriate procedures and sign-off to ensure the accuracy of relevant master-data, including, commodity codes, preferential country of origin, weights, etc.
  • Sample check the accuracy of the master-data and liaise with the relevant functional teams and Group Tax to ensure that master-data errors are promptly corrected and assess the impact on previously submitted declarations, taking correction action as required.
  • Prepare and maintain certification of Preferential Country of Origin (COO) required for export markets.
  • Conduct risk assessments on import and export operations
  • Review compliance with internal policies, procedures, and external regulations, reporting any non-compliance and recommending corrective actions.
  • Stay up to date with the latest import and export regulations, tariffs, sanctions, and trade agreements
  • Provide training and guidance to employees and stakeholders on import and export compliance matters and best practice

Skills and Knowledge

  • Proven hands-on experience in import-export compliance, customs regulations, and international trade.
  • Knowledge of rules of origin, preferential and non-preferential.
  • Experience of CDS and TSS systems and ideally AIS.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
