Corporate Accountant

The Role

We are delighted to be working with an expanding Local Authority who are in an exciting growth phase and therefore have an opportunity for a Corporate Accountant to join them.

This role holds key responsibility for the day-to-day management of the finance team including the following activities across the Group:

  • Responsible for the preparation and completion for all financial statements across the group including primary statements, accounting policies and the notes to the accounts
  • Assist with the development of financial plans and strategies in order to align financial resources to corporate and service strategies and plans.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial papers and strategies for cabinet and other committee meetings
  • Deliver high quality financial information, discussing the current year position with budget holders and other accountable bodies to deliver the annual budget
  • Proactively engage with Budget Holders and other key stakeholders to ensure that accruals are taken correctly to ensure robust and consistent reporting.
  • Identifying with Group stakeholders the required information to support the coordination of the Medium Term Financial Plan and Capital Programme
  • Provide financial management support to Directors, including overseeing budget management support.

About You

This Corporate Accountant role is suited to a Qualified, or soon to be Qualified CIMA/ACCA/CIPFA Accountant, with local government experience.

  • Qualified Accountant (or part-newly Qualified)
  • Ideally 3 years of experience within local government or authority
  • Good technical knowledge / skills required by the organisation in their field - proactively and independently learning other aspects.
  • Leads the organisation on a day to day basis on defined projects or programmes
  • Good stakeholder and team member engagement
  • Supervisory or line management experience preferred
