Our client is an international energy and services company providing energy services to consumers across the globe and driving innovative products and solutions to drive power to the customer in more ways than one.

Job Overview

The BG Services & Solutions (S&S) Strategy team is responsible for setting longer term plan and ambitions for British Gas S&S, and translating this into business plans, performance measures and budgets.

The Secondment will initially help shape our strategy in Heating & Cooling for Homeowners and Landlords, in Electric Services and in Social Housing.

The role focuses on 3 pillars:

  1. Develop robust growth strategies for the markets that we operate, partnering with S&S and NZ teams.
  2. Produce actionable insights on trends and competitive activities that inform strategy and support SLT decision making.
  3. Long term strategic & investment planning for BGSS - delivered through Shape process with close engagement of the business and SLT.

Key Accountabilities

  • Maintain a deep understanding of the markets in which S&S operates, and support Leadership in identifying key strategic questions facing the business.
  • Leverage expertise in the S&S landscape and its players to drive deeper insights into competitors and influencers.
  • Profile market participants and work across S&S to identify strategies and innovative ways to outperform the market.
  • Refresh S&S growth plans and strategy, obtaining buy-in from the SLT, functions and Change leaders to develop a roadmap of projects that translate into firm plans for delivery.
  • Develop S&S Business Unit growth strategies and frameworks, working with Cross functional teams and Business Units (e.g. Social Housing, Electric Services), engaging consultants as appropriate to align the SLT and CLT on the strategic framework for growth.
  • Own market sizing and positioning of the BG S&S portfolio to inform planning assumptions and articulate longer-term ambition.
  • Continuously evolve and track delivery of benefits and investments from the Change portfolio including leading the appraisal and review process for all papers to be submitted to the GCC and CIC
  • Work closely with Risk and Internal Audit teams to ensure effective reviews are undertaken, processes are updated, and risks are mitigated to an acceptable level.
  • Work closely with the finance team to ensure alignment on the impact of the latest plans and forecasts, leading on market sizing and strategic input for in-year processes e.g. GAP, Interim Results, H1 results and growth targets.
  • Provide strategy support and challenge to the functions as appropriate, engaging in the key strategic discussions and supporting during the planning cycle.
  • Work with operational and support functions to ensure strategy is translated into plans.
  • Liaise with the Corporate Strategy team, Net Zero and BG Energy teams to ensure close alignment, support of relevant M&A activities and consistent messaging.
  • Drive the 5-year plan (Shape process), developing all material presented to Group Strategy, the CLT and Finance stakeholders, whilst effectively coordinating inputs from all business units within S&S and the SLT (if secondment is extended)

Work Experience & Functional/Technical Skills

  • Work experience in top tier management consulting (manager level) or substantial experience in corporate strategy and / or business planning with strong analytical skills.
  • Track record of delivering projects, presentations, or reports for senior management with limited oversight
  • Track record of working in high-performing teams and managing senior stakeholders
