Legal Practitioner

We are seeking a dedicated Legal Practitioner specialising in Litigation to provide expert legal advice, guidance, and representation. The role has a particular emphasis on Child Protection, child-related law, and Adult Social Care law. The successful candidate will be adaptable to service demands and proficient in various legal disciplines.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Undertake casework and support other officers within the section, aligned with the job purpose.
  • Represent customers in legal proceedings and attend and advise at both internal and external meetings as required.
  • Comply with standards of conduct, training requirements, internal protocols/standards, and policies and procedures of the Authority.
  • Escalate issues that may impact service delivery appropriately.
  • Identify changes in law and practice relevant to the post and contribute towards the development of policies, practice, and business efficiencies, including delivering training.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the legal disciplines allocated by managers.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Law degree or equivalent graduate qualification is desirable.
  • Legal knowledge in at least one or more of the relevant specialist fields listed in the job purpose.
  • Awareness of the statutory and governance frameworks relating to Local Authorities.
  • Recent legal advisory experience.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload using effective time management techniques.
  • Experience in supporting a team according to available resources.
  • Commitment to excellent customer care and the ability to work efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to work well with colleagues and on one's own initiative.
