We are seeking a dedicated Finance Officer to join a secondary school in Maidstone that prides itself on its ‘Good' Ofsted rating and ‘Outstanding' denominational inspection grade. This role is integral to the financial operations of the school and offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the educational sector.

Day-to-day of the role:

Financial Control:

  • Process income and expenditure efficiently.
  • Prepare cheques, BACS, and direct debit payments for authorisation.
  • Perform bank account reconciliations.
  • Handle end of year and payroll journal processing.
  • Monitor energy usage and examination costs.
  • Support the Finance Manager with annual budget preparations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial processes.

ParentPay System:

  • Set up and manage payment items.
  • Process income and issue refunds as needed.
  • Address enquiries from parents and staff.
  • Keep student and staff records up to date.

Lunch Cards:

  • Oversee the distribution of catering cards.
  • Respond to enquiries from parents, students, and staff.

School Trips:

  • Oversee the financial aspects of school trips.
  • Handle related income and expenditure.
  • Perform analysis and reconciliation for each trip.

Assist Register:

  • Maintain a computerised register.
  • Generate monthly reports.
  • Conduct annual stock and audit checks.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A good standard of general education with strong literacy and numeracy skills, e.g., 5 GCSEs (A*-C) including English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • A formal accountancy qualification or part-qualified status is desirable.
  • Proficient in relating well to both children and adults.
  • High level of ICT competency.
  • Previous experience in a finance role is essential.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding school roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.
