Location: Barton Mills, Suffolk (IP28)
Hourly Pay Rate: £11.45
Hours: 37.5 per week. Shift times 06:00 to 14:00 and 14:00 to 22:00 on a rota basis to provide coverage of 7 days per week including weekends
Length of the contract: Temporary Ongoing

Gi Group are now seeking to appoint an experienced Fleet Driver to our Public Sector client based in Barton Mills. The Fleet Driver will be responsible for the safe collection and delivery of vehicles. This will primarily be from the organisation's locations to workshops and other designated vehicle repairs, although occasionally pickup from other locations is require. The Fleet Driver will also carry out extended road tests of vehicles during both collection and delivery to ensure vehicles are ready for use by the organisation.

Duties of the Fleet Driver

  • Communicate general information and vehicle specific information to internal and external workshop staff, make ready staff, and Station Managers.
  • To deliver and collect vehicles between sites and external sites and agents.
  • To undertake extended road tests of vehicles after either a workshop or other vehicle repairer has been undertaken prior to them going back into service.
  • To undertake 'vehicle checks' on each vehicle driven to ensure it has legal tyres, functioning lights, sufficient oil and coolant, and fuel for the journey being completed, in accordance with the client's policy.
  • Able to reactively plan working day based on operational requirements and changes to pre-planned work.
  • To report any defects that arise during the collection, delivery, or road test to either Workshop Supervisors, Workshop Managers, or the Fleet Admin Team, prior to the vehicle being handed over to the user of that vehicle.
  • To represent the organisation and drive in such a manner that reflects the type of vehicle that they will be expected to drive.
  • To be responsible for the safe keeping of any fuel card or mobile phone issued to the individual during their period of work and to return such items prior to the end of their duty. To report as soon as practicable any loss or theft of items immediately to the Bank Driver Coordinator or the Fleet Admin and Compliance Manager.
  • To maintain contact with the Bank Driver Coordinator or SPOC (Single Point of Contact) to keep them informed of their availability for work.
  • To complete records, such as vehicle daily checks and timesheets etc. These can be both paper based and electronic format.

Role Criteria

  • Hold a current full and valid driving licence for the following classes B, C1, and D1 with a maximum of 3 points.
  • GCSE qualifications or equivalent in literacy and numeracy.
  • Knowledge of vehicle operations and basic vehicle checks and inspections.
  • Experience of working in a customer service environment.
  • Experience in the vehicle sector with previous fleet experience is beneficial.
  • Able to travel as and when required.
  • Able to deal with a high volume of work whilst maintaining standards and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to get things done in cooperation with others, and as part of a support team.
