Contracts Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced and dynamic Contract Manager to oversee a range of civil engineering projects across the West Midlands. As a Contract Manager you will be integral in supporting the division to achieve its Business Plan by managing project teams, fostering client relationships, and ensuring the successful operational delivery of complex infrastructure projects. These projects, which are essential to the region's development, require a professional who can bring together the technical aspects of civil engineering with effective project management and client communication. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, extensive knowledge of NEC4 contracts, and the ability to lead teams to deliver high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the successful delivery of civil engineering projects from inception to completion.
  • Managing and supporting project teams to create a collaborative working environment where each team member can thrive and perform to a high standard.
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered efficiently, adhering to best practices, and constantly seeking ways to improve processes and outcomes.
  • A critical part of this role is the proactive identification and mitigation of risks that may affect project delivery, ensuring that potential issues are addressed before they become significant problems.
  • Reviewing and suggesting improvements to the management system in collaboration with the wider business. This is to ensure that the system continues to deliver desirable outcomes and meets the evolving needs of the projects.
  • Achieving operational targets by utilizing established processes and procedures, and where conflicts between outcomes and processes arise, the Contract Manager will provide evidence-based professional statements to the Operations Manager.
  • Maintaining strong, professional, and productive relationships with clients, suppliers, and colleagues.
  • Engage with stakeholders before, during, and after project completion to ensure satisfaction and foster long-term partnerships.

  • Demonstrate excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide project teams to achieve high standards.
  • Strong communication skills are essential for managing relationships with clients, suppliers, and colleagues, as well as for addressing any challenges that arise during project delivery.
  • The ability to think critically and solve problems efficiently is vital, as is the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining focus on delivering quality outcomes.
  • A deep understanding of civil engineering practices, combined with extensive knowledge of NEC4 contracts, is crucial for this role.
  • Must be able to apply this knowledge practically, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Qualifications Required:

  • Have a strong background in civil engineering, with significant operational and/or commercial experience that provides a comprehensive understanding of how projects should be managed.
  • Extensive knowledge of NEC4 contracts is essential, as this will be a key part of the role.
  • An operational background within civil engineering is highly desirable, as it will equip the candidate with the practical insights needed to manage complex infrastructure projects effectively.
