Vacancy Reference: EN40497

Closing Date: 2nd June 2024

Opportunity to take on a meaningful and stimulating role within the inspiring and dynamic Centre for Sustainable Finance (CSF) team at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL).

Do you want to make a difference in the transition toward a sustainable economy? Are you interested in a fast-paced and demanding role, working with industry leaders to develop influential and forward-thinking work to shape the future of the financial services?

Achieving sustainability is the greatest challenge of our time, and bold and collaborative leadership will be crucial for meeting this challenge successfully. CISL is a globally influential institute within the University of Cambridge working to develop leadership and solutions towards a sustainable economy.

The Centre for Sustainable Finance helps financial institutions play a leading role in building a more sustainable economy through a unique combination of deep industry collaboration and high-calibre applied research. We work with over 50 global financial institutions across banking, insurance and investments.

The centre bridges the worlds of business, finance and policymaking in order to enable the transition to a sustainable economy, facilitating stronger mutual understanding between financial institutions, their clients in the real economy and the institutions which govern them.

The role

We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced programme manager to join the Banking Environment Initiative (BEI) within CISL's Centre for Sustainable Finance.

The Banking Environment Initiative (BEI) is a group of global banks committed to pioneering actionable pathways towards a sustainable economy. The BEI works with its members to co-create horizon scanning applied research and convenes academic and industry collaborations. It is a member-led, not-for-profit group, formed in 2010 and convened by CISL alongside our investor and insurer groups. Our research draws on the intellectual breadth of the University and an international network of leading thinkers and practitioners to tackle the most important sustainability challenges across banking and the broader financial sector.

The role requires the individuals to manage multiple workstreams, demonstrating exceptional programme management capabilities. This includes the ability to think strategically about project developments, measuring and evaluating research impact, and working with a wide range of stakeholders and external partners.

Key skills and experience:

  • Understanding of sustainable finance, particularly across climate and social themes, actively keeping a pulse on major initiatives and events. Demonstrate strong critical thinking abilities to translate this understanding into clear and applicable insights.
  • Advanced research abilities with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to deliver professional, compelling project outputs (e.g. reports, presentations, short articles), clearly and articulately summarising findings to facilitate practical application by stakeholders and the broader financial sector.
  • Ability to manage in-person and virtual events, including preparation, coordination of speakers and participants, and on-the-day delivery.
  • Qualified to at least degree level or equivalent with demonstrable commitment to the values that underpin the work of CISL.
  • Ability to develop and deliver CSF project plans and workstreams within agreed scope, budget, and timelines, reviewing progress against targets and adapting as work evolves.
  • Ability to work independently and bring structure/organization to complex projects, often under time pressure.
  • Ability to grow and maintain relationships with partners; companies, policy makers and funders.

What you'll receive:

  • 41 days annual leave (inc bank holidays).
  • Flexible/hybrid working considered
  • Excellent benefits including a generous pension scheme, discount portal, cycle to work scheme, access to the University accommodation service, relocation support, employee assistance programme, family friendly policies
  • Extensive development opportunities.

This post is a permanent full-time role on a hybrid working basis with at least 2 days in our award-winning Cambridge office.
