Senior Finance Manager Full-time or Part-time

Posted by Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited.

Your New Company: Join a well-established charity based near Canary Wharf with an annual income of £2.5 million. This organisation, supported by regular corporate, individual, and outsourced donors, primarily relies on large donations. It has a significant impact on disadvantaged communities and boasts a committed and passionate team dedicated to their cause.

Your New Role: As the Finance Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial management of the charity. This hands-on role requires a dedicated accountant who can work effectively with the small senior leadership team. The organisation is open to both full-time and part-time candidates. If part-time, an additional junior part-time staff member will be hired to assist. Given the low volume of transactions, the role is manageable on a part-time basis. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing financial advice, analysis, and direction to the CEO, SLT, and Board.
  • Managing the Finance Committee, including attending meetings and preparing/distributing papers.
  • Collaborating with the CEO and SLT to develop the financial strategy.
  • Leading the preparation of statutory year-end accounts in line with SORP requirements and implementing auditors' recommendations.
  • Preparing annual budgets, forecasts, and cashflow positions in consultation with the CEO.
  • Producing monthly and quarterly management accounts with plain English commentary for non-finance audiences.
  • Overseeing the coordination of incoming donations and payments.
  • Preparing annual donor statements.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely completion of monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Preparing VAT returns and advising on registration issues.
  • Ensuring compliance, payroll, and pension returns, as well as Gift Aid claims, are accurate and submitted on time.
  • Authorising bank payments using online banking/BACS.

What You'll Need to Succeed: You will be an experienced accountant capable of managing the organisation's finances and reporting directly to the CEO. Self-sufficiency and confidence in decision-making are crucial, as you will operate independently. Strong communication skills are essential for liaising with stakeholders, including development and fundraising personnel, and presenting at committee and board levels. Experience in the charity sector is desirable. What You'll Get in Return

  • Flexible working options.
  • 35 hours per week (or part-time options considered).
  • 23 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays, with incremental increases.
  • Pension scheme (7% total contribution: 5.5% employer, 1.5% employee).
  • Employee Assistance Programme, Cycle to Work scheme, and hybrid working arrangements (one day per week in the office, negotiable based on location).
  • Opportunity to work with a team genuinely interested in the organisation's goals.
  • Potential to get involved in other areas such as HR over time.

What You Need to Do Now: Please apply now to be considered! Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
