RAN RFP Transport and Transmission Specialist

I am pleased to be partnering with a leading Global Telecomms giant, based near Basingstoke, Hampshire who are looking for a RAN RFP Transport and Transmission Specialist for a highly involved part of a key nationwide project. You'll work remotely with occasional travel to the Basingstoke area or London and you will receive £550-£600 per day inside IR35 and the position will be due for extension after 3 months of tenure.

As a RAN RFP Transport and Transmission Specialist, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day support to an upcoming RAN RFP activity. Support will be needed in respect of the transport and transmission aspects of the RAN solutions that will be proposed by the prospective suppliers. Leading the project, you'll identify and document appropriate transport-related & transmission-related requirements for inclusion within the relevant RAN RFP schedules, to provide clarifications in response to questions from the prospective suppliers, to attend presentations given by the prospective suppliers, to evaluate / rate the responses of the prospective suppliers and to help convert the responses of the successful suppliers into contractual statements.

  • Experience of supporting RFx activities (or other techno-commercial activities) in the capacity of Subject Matter Expert (SME) and subject lead.
  • An understanding of 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G (NSA and SA) RAN architectures, including the network elements that are involved, the logical interfaces, the types of traffic that those interfaces carry and the ways in which RAN architectures are evolving (e.g. split-architecture models, O-RAN, vRAN, CUPS, etc.).
  • An understanding of the access transport solutions that are typically used within a mobile operator's RAN (e.g. E-Line, IP VPN, etc.).
  • A good working knowledge of Ethernet fundamentals (e.g. electrical and optical Ethernet interface specifications, frame structure, MAC addressing, Layer 2 switching, VLANs, etc.).
  • A good working knowledge of IP fundamentals (e.g. packet structure, IP addressing, Layer 3 routing, VPNs, etc.).
  • A good working knowledge of Ethernet and IP QoS mechanisms (i.e. PCP and DSCP marking, policing, classification, scheduling, congestion avoidance and shaping).
  • An understanding of IP transport protocols (i.e. UDP, TCP, SCTP and RTP / RTCP).
  • An understanding of transport-related synchronisation techniques (i.e. SyncE and ToP / PTP).
  • An understanding of the IPsec architecture and protocols.
