Management Accountant (Temporary)

  • Job Type: Temporary for two months initially possible extension
  • Salary: £26.92 per hour PAYE or £33.83 per hour via an umbrella company.
  • Working hours: 35 hours per week ( flexible on times between 08.00- 18.00) – 100% office based.

We are seeking a qualified Management Accountant from the not-for-profit sector to join our finance team on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring month-end deadlines are met, processing payroll journals, and leading on the reconciliation of key balance sheet and bank accounts. This role will also involve preparation and submission of monthly pension returns, quarterly VAT returns, and playing an active role in the changeover to a new finance system.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Lead on the month-end timetable, ensuring deadlines are adhered to.
  • Reconcile key balance sheet accounts monthly and as part of annual accounts preparation.
  • Prepare and process pension returns and quarterly VAT returns.
  • Post payments and reconcile bank accounts weekly.
  • Process monthly payroll and timesheets journal, accruals, prepayments, and income journal.
  • Prepare monthly budget holder reports and assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Answer queries from colleagues across the organisation and during the annual audit.
  • Manage the Chart of Accounts and maintenance of the finance system.
  • Work closely with the Head of Finance in the transition to a new finance system.
  • Provide cover for colleagues in the finance team when they are on leave.
  • Cover some of the Head of Finance responsibilities during their absence.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Fully qualified accountant (CCAB).
  • At least 2 years recent experience in a management and/or financial accounts role.
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to use Vlookups, SumIfs, and pivot tables.
  • Knowledge and experience of working in the charity or non-for-profit sector.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing budget holder reports and management accounts.
  • Business partnering experience with budget holders.
  • Experience in reconciling bank accounts and balance sheets.
  • Ability to review income and expenditure balances to identify mispostings and suggest corrections.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise conflicting demands.
  • Highly accurate with strong attention to detail and strong numerical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative when required.
