More Than Just Management

We're seeking more than just a manager; we want someone who is genuinely passionate about the success of both our products and our team. As a Senior Engineering Manager, your role will extend beyond managing technical tasks—you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our engineering initiatives. Collaborating closely with our VP of Product, Engineering Managers, and Principal Engineers, you'll ensure that our engineering practices are aligned with our product vision and business objectives, all while nurturing a culture of innovation, excellence, and collaboration.

Who You Are

Essential

  • Proven experience in leading and managing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Strong technical background with experience in software development and architecture.
  • Ability to make strategic decisions about technology and team management.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style.
  • Passionate about mentoring and developing engineering talent.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, agile environments.
  • Customer-centric approach with a deep understanding of solving real-world problems.

Desirable

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.
  • Background in the travel or vacation rental industry.
  • Familiarity with our tech stack (we value capable people over specific technologies).
  • Experience in scaling engineering teams and processes.

Our Tech Stack

Our tech stack roughly consists of:

  • Frontend: React Native (Typescript), Expo; React (Typescript), Next.js, Vercel
  • Backend: Node.js (Typescript) & Python
  • Testing: jest, pytest, Cucumber
  • Database: PostgreSQL
  • Infrastructure: AWS - ECS, Lambda, SNS, SQS, RDS, Glue, Athena

We are looking for someone who can navigate these technologies and guide our teams in using them effectively to build scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Engineering Manager at Travelnest, you'll play a critical role in driving the success of our engineering initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading multiple cross-functional engineering teams, ensuring alignment with the company's goals and product roadmap.
  • Collaborating with the VP of Product, Principal Engineers and other stakeholders to define and deploy our technical strategy.
  • Overseeing the development of robust, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.
  • Mentoring and coaching engineers and engineering managers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Managing performance, setting clear goals, and providing regular feedback to team members.
  • Driving engineering excellence, ensuring the quality and reliability of the codebase.
  • Identifying and addressing technical debt, while balancing short-term and long-term objectives.
