Head of IT - Technical Support

Our client a leading educational establishment is seeking a Head of IT - Technical Support to over see the procurement, installation, and commissioning of specialist equipment as well as its maintenance across its site.

To lead and develop a high performing team of technicians focused on achieving specialist qualifications. Ensuring the technical services team provide high quality support to staff with day- to-day running of technical spaces, lessons, and support for students in practical spaces.

To effectively deploy the team of technicians and manage all specialist equipment budgets. The post holder will require technical expertise, in one or more specific areas: Engineering, science, construction, IT, aesthetics, media, dental, health sciences

Main responsibilities

  • To be a member of the leadership team and College's Management Team
  • To oversee the procurement, installation and commissioning of specialist equipment
  • To manage the maintenance of specialist equipment
  • To manage the provision of technical duties and ensure the effective deployment of technicians
  • To ensure effective cover arrangements for the absence of technical staff.
  • To line manage the technicians, coordinating their leave, annual appraisals and CPD
  • To ensure that high standards of safety and security are maintained in relation to the technical service in accordance with College Health and Safety policy, keeping records of safety checks.

Essential Qualifications

  • A level 4 qualification or equivalent in IT or a technical area
  • Experience of and commitment to the effective implementation of equal opportunities.
  • Experience of working in a technical area relevant to this post including the implementation of Health and Safety systems.
  • Experience of planning schedules, keeping records and
  • liaising with suppliers and specialists to ensure the
  • Effective operation and maintenance of all facilities
  • Experience of working within a team.
  • A Health and Safety qualification, and evidence of recent up-dating in Health and Safety.
