Assistant Project Manager

Key responsibilities

The Asst. Project Manager / CAD Technician will work on Capital and Cyclical maintenance projects on housing stock owned by Islington Council, initially mainly within the street properties refurbishment and improvement programme.

The primary responsibility will be to undertake on-site measured surveys of mainly Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian traditional heritage street properties in order to produce accurate, annotated scaled AutoCAD drawings, elevations, floorplans and sections - as existing and as proposed - required to accompany full plans planning applications and Listed Building Consent applications. This is in association with an ongoing rolling programme of mainly window replacements. The role will also require a good knowledge of legislation and regulations around heritage and conservation, as well as a good knowledge of the principles and practice of retrofit to older and traditional buildings.

The APM / CAD Technician shall be committed to work to Islington Council's core principles and key aims and Business Plans.

Specific Responsibilities:-

  • Provide all services in line with recognised professional standards, ie. ARB, RIBA and RICS, except insofar as the duties and responsibilities are modified by internal regulations and procedures.
  • Undertake measured site surveys and produce associated stock condition reports.
  • Prepare dimensional, scaled, annotated existing and proposed drawings for architectural and associated works.
  • Revise and update drawings to reflect design changes, in collaboration with the surveyors, architects and engineers ensuring consistency at all times.
  • Review plans and associated technical specifications to ensure consistent information is produced.
  • Assist with the production of drawings and associated information for planning applications, building regulation and listed building consent.
  • Establish and maintain up to date filing guidelines and drawing register schedules and maintain clear records and undertake periodic audits of these schedules and records.

Criteria description

Level 2 First Certificate in Engineering / Architectural Technology or

Level 2 Award/Certificate in Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing or

Level 2 Diploma in Performing Foundation Engineering / Architectural Operations or

Design-based degree at University level

2 years relevant post qualification work experience with 1 year preferably undertaking Architectural or Engineering services CAD drawings.

Criteria description

Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Sketch-Up.

Ability to generate layout drawings from site surveys or sketches to produce initial designs and specifications.

Knowledgeable of standard drafting practices and procedures.

Able to work with minimal supervision, efficiently schedule and manage time.

Thoroughknowledge/experience of building legislation, Building Regulations and knowledge/experience of building contracts.
