Welding Engineer

Shift Pattern: Day shift - 39 hours per week working 07.30 to 16.30 Monday to Thursday, and 07.30 to 12.30 on Fridays, with designated breaks

Opportunity Summary:

We currently have a vacancy within our Engineering Department for a Welding Engineer focusing on special processes. We are looking for candidates who have relevant and proven experience, seeking an opportunity to join a growing Organisation.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Support the "internal customer" (Manufacturing Manager) by sharing agreed objectives on EHS, Quality, Cost and Delivery and participating in the Operational Control model.
  • Participate in the Manufacturing Manager and/or Team Leader walk the floor routine and develop a stand-alone walk the floor routine specific to the ME role.
  • Participate in the Daily Operations meeting and relevant Standard Diary meetings, taking ownership of problems assigned to the WE function for resolution.
  • Contribute to the delivery of the EHS Model, by participating in Job Safety Observations and providing technical/process solutions to EHS problems where appropriate.
  • Understand the process constraints and operating rules of the value stream covered in the WE role and participate in problem-solving exercises to improve flow where relevant.

Person Specification:

  • Worked within an Aerospace/Automotive manufacturing environment
  • Be able to create and control (to the correct version) manufacturing documentation such as set-up packs, stage drawings, work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), etc
  • Take accountability for the relevant milestones in the NPDI gated process and fulfilling all WE tasks defined in that process (e.g.: prepare cost estimates, producing stage drawings, creating manufacturing routes, gaining customer approval, etc).
  • Ensure delivery of the NPDI milestones under the scope of the role are delivered on time, within budget, and comply to customer specification.
  • Ensure that all necessary tooling which is required to support a safe, robust, and efficient manufacturing process is designed, manufactured and available to support relevant milestones.
  • Ensure that Welding relevant processes and those that conduct them meet legislative and customer requirements.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, taking account of outcomes from audit processes and working to implement solutions where gaps are identified.
