Production Engineer

Futures are looking to appoint a Production Engineer for an industry leading manufacturer near Rochdale. As Production Engineer you will aim to improve manufacturing techniques to reduce cycle times, remove waste, and increase quality and repeatability. It is essential you have good CAD skills as day to day you will be required to design tooling, brackets, fixtures etc that enable to production team to improve their ways of working. The Production Engineer will report into the Manufacturing Manager and be the point of contact within the lean function to answer queries on production engineering for the quality, production, maintenance and design departments. The ideal Production Engineer will come from a fast-moving high volume component manufacturing background: plastic, glass, electronics, automotive, etc. and have rounded exposure in mechanical engineering.

Production Engineer - Role and Responsibilities - Manufacturing Engineer, Lean, Continuous Improvement

  • Address root causes of process and yield issues. Work with quality department and understand 4D/8D/Root Cause Analysis. Implement CAPA
  • Work with test department to maintain test equipment
  • Increase OEE and reduce machine downtime. Work with maintenance and advise on TPM/PPM
  • Make improvements to processes and production techniques utilising CAD to design tooling, brackets and fixtures where necessary
  • Work with production to reduce lead times, improve tooling and changeovers, and drive greater performance from existing staff. Observe assembly staff and assess for ergonomic issues with operators
  • Lead Design Reviews and report back to R&D to allow the design of easily manufacturable products
  • Liaise with Lean Engineers. Knowledge of SMED/POKE YOKE techniques

Production Engineer - Skills and Abilities - Manufacturing Engineer, Lean, Continuous Improvement

  • Extensive experience of production engineering: layout, continuous flow, SMED, CAPEX, planning, capacity modelling/simulation, costing
  • Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement knowledge. Six Sigma training preferred but not essential
  • HND/Degree qualified in Production or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Experience with CAD
  • Knowledge of high volume manufacturing (plastic, glass, electronics, food, automotive, etc.)
