The Role

The Operations team are currently recruiting a Transport Team Leader at our Jupiter Road site.

This is a working supervisor position where the week will be spent on loading/unloading vehicles and managing the movement of vehicles in line with Company Health and Safety and operational standards. Also, time will be allocated to leadership and management duties including supervising despatch team members, organising and planning their work.

Responsibilities

  • Providing necessary site health and safety instruction to arriving drivers and other visitors.
  • Oversee the activity/movement of all drivers (LGV and Forklift Truck) during their time onsite to ensure they adhere to site H&S rules.
  • Organise the work of a small team of Forklift Drivers, allocating specific vehicles to load/unload.
  • Manning the Despatch office as required signing in visiting tradespeople and contractors and accepting general incoming deliveries.
  • Advising drivers of allocated loading bay and acting as banksman in line with safety procedures.
  • Update computerised Company planning system as loads are completed - recording relevant vehicle details and any issues.
  • Liaising with haulier partner to call down vehicles, additional pallets, and raw materials to support production activities.
  • Liaising with Operations Team and providing details of stock held, loads complete and any developing issues.
  • Your job title does not limit your duties and the Company may require you from time to time to undertake any other duties within your capability.

Other key elements of the role involve:

  • Health and Safety – Leadership and coaching in raising hazards and holding safety for life conversations. Accident reporting and investigation, legal compliance, maintaining housekeeping standards. Ensuring warehouse is kept within safe working limits.
  • Allocating loads to FLT drivers, ensuring we stay on time with the Despatch schedule.
  • Forward planning including ongoing dialogue with the corrugator.
  • Ensure accuracy of late list entries
  • Contractor management, receipt of general deliveries
  • Resource management – working roster, holiday booking, TMS, appraisals, training.
  • Communication with customer service team
  • Stock accuracy including aged stock.
  • End of shift reporting and performance management of shift
  • Warehouse control – CRD's, returns, rework, waste.
  • FLT loader

Specifications

  • Strong people management skills
  • IOSH Trained
  • Knowledge of how the business operates from sales through to dispatch.
  • Experience of managing to operational standards and key performance indicators
  • Good organisational skills with an ability to manage workload and priorities of self and team.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal (face to face and telephone) and written (email)
  • IT skills
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Able to build effective relationships with colleagues and other external contacts.
  • Counterbalance Forklift license taken or refreshed in the last 3 years.
  • Health and safety focus

Applicants should also understand how the business operates from sales through to despatch and have experience of managing to operational standards. Strong people management, organisational and communication skills (face to face, telephone, and email) are key to success in the role as is an ability to use IT systems.

The role will be established on a full time, permanent basis. Applicants must be willing to work reasonable amounts of overtime in line with business needs and be flexible on shift length and pattern.
