Housing Officer

As a Housing Officer, you will be the primary point of contact for our residents, responsible for managing a portfolio of properties and ensuring that tenancies are sustained in a positive and supportive manner. You will work closely with residents to address their needs, resolve issues, and maintain the overall wellbeing of our communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tenancy Management: Manage a diverse portfolio of properties, ensuring all tenancies are compliant with legal requirements and internal policies. Handle tenancy sign-ups, renewals, and terminations.
  • Resident Support: Provide advice and support to residents, assisting them with tenancy-related issues, welfare benefits, and accessing additional services as needed.
  • Rent Collection: Monitor and manage rent accounts, working with residents to address arrears and ensure timely payments. Provide guidance on budgeting and financial management.
  • Property Inspections: Conduct regular property inspections to ensure homes are well-maintained and meet safety standards. Arrange for repairs and maintenance when necessary.
  • ASB & Conflict Resolution: Respond to reports of anti-social behaviour (ASB) and other neighbourhood disputes. Work collaboratively with residents, local authorities, and other agencies to resolve issues effectively.
  • Community Engagement: Foster strong relationships within the community, encouraging resident involvement in local activities and initiatives. Promote a sense of pride and responsibility among residents.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all interactions, inspections, and actions taken, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and internal procedures.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience: Proven experience in housing management, preferably within a housing association or local authority setting.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of housing law, tenancy agreements, and the challenges facing social housing residents.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with a diverse range of residents.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactive approach to resolving issues, with strong decision-making and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Empathy & Resilience: A compassionate and empathetic attitude towards residents, coupled with the resilience to handle challenging situations.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload effectively.
