Stock Accountant

In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with directors, department heads, and finance professionals across the business, positioning yourself at the core of our operations. Your contribution will be critical to enhancing our business performance by identifying and implementing efficiencies in period-end stock reconciliations and minimizing wastage.

This role ensures that external audit requirements for inventory reporting are met, and provides internal stakeholders with accurate inventory data to inform strategic decision-making. Beyond regular reporting and audits, you'll have the opportunity to drive process improvements and participate in key projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct monthly inventory reconciliations with the General Ledger.
  • Coordinate interim and year-end stocktakes for both Wholesale and Retail sectors.
  • Ensure full compliance with external audit requirements.
  • Oversee store stocktakes, including those at year-end, interim, seasonal, and on an ad hoc basis.
  • Collaborate closely with the Trading and Purchase Ledger teams to maintain accurate and timely stock pricing updates.
  • Review and assess the impact of stock provision policies on the Profit and Loss (P&L) statement.
  • Identify and address risks and opportunities related to the inventory balance sheet.
  • Support the Finance Manager by performing additional ad hoc tasks as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Relevant Accountancy Qualification: Such as CIMA, ACCA, or ICAEW.
  • Experience: Post-qualified experience in a large retail environment.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to manage relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders with varying objectives.
  • Analytical and Excel Proficiency: Strong analytical skills and a high level of expertise in Excel, with keen attention to detail.
  • Independence and Teamwork: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Workload Management: Skill in managing workloads efficiently while handling potentially conflicting priorities.
  • Proactive Attitude: A hands-on approach with a proactive, positive "can-do" attitude.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

  • Inventory Finance Experience: Prior experience managing inventory finance.
  • Retail/FMCG Experience: Experience in a large retail or fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) organization.
