Temporary Works Coordinator

My client isa leading contractor with a strong track record of delivering major infrastructure projects across the UK. With a turnover of £600m, they pride themselves on commitment to quality, safety, and innovation in the construction industry. They are currently involved in a landmark £50m rail scheme, which includes the construction of three new stations, extensive lineside civils, and complex concrete structures. To support the successful delivery of this project, they are seeking an experienced and highly competent Temporary Works Coordinator to join the team.

Project Overview:

This exciting rail scheme is a key part of a broader infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing the UK's rail network. The project involves:

  • Three New Station Builds: These stations are crucial to improving connectivity and accessibility for the local community. The construction of these stations includes a range of temporary works challenges, from deep excavations to complex formwork for reinforced concrete structures.
  • Lineside Civils: The project also encompasses significant lineside civil engineering works, including earthworks, drainage, and retaining structures. Temporary works will be critical in ensuring the safety and stability of these operations.
  • Concrete Structures: The project features a variety of substantial concrete structures, including platforms, bridges, and underpasses, requiring meticulous planning and execution of temporary works.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Temporary Works Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of this project. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Temporary Works Planning and Coordination: Lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of all temporary works on-site. This includes liaising with designers, engineers, and construction teams to ensure that temporary works are designed and installed in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Design Management: Work closely with the temporary works designers to review and approve temporary works designs, ensuring they are fit for purpose, safe, and compliant with relevant legislation and best practices.
  • On-Site Management: Oversee the installation, inspection, and removal of temporary works. Ensure that all procedures are followed correctly, and that the works are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with project managers, site engineers, subcontractors, and external consultants to ensure effective communication and coordination. This includes providing technical advice and guidance on temporary works requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Risk Management and Safety Compliance: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with temporary works. Ensure that all temporary works activities are carried out in accordance with the project's health and safety plan, and that all necessary permits and approvals are in place.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all temporary works activities, including design approvals, inspections, and certifications. Report regularly to the project management team on the status of temporary works.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience: A proven track record as a Temporary Works Coordinator, with experience in large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly within the rail or civil engineering sectors. Experience in managing temporary works for station builds, lineside civils, and concrete structures is highly desirable.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of temporary works design, installation, and management, with a strong understanding of the relevant codes, standards, and regulations, including BS 5975.
  • Qualifications: A degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related discipline. A valid Temporary Works Coordinator certificate is essential. Additional qualifications in health and safety, such as SMSTS or NEBOSH, would be an advantage.
  • Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. The ability to manage multiple tasks and stakeholders in a high-pressure environment. A commitment to safety, quality, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
