SEN English Teacher

Five Education is looking for an English Teacher to work in an alternative special school in Somerset. The school has various sites located near Glastonbury, Taunton, and Highbridge. The school has a strong ethos of boosting self-esteem and they utilise the local countryside to get children to enjoy learning new skills, such as horticulture. The successful person for this role will be able to demonstrate good behaviour management and a strong level of adaptability and resilience.

The students can at times display challenging behaviour, most have special needs which include ACES/Trauma (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
The teaching team and management are very supportive. There is much to learn in this highly rewarding role. You will be supported with subjects that you may not have taught before and the class sizes are very small.

Responsibilities and duties:
-Supporting students with their learning and development through a bespoke curriculum
-Helping the students to feel safe and become more confident
-Adapting lessons to meet the needs of the student
-Working with other staff members including SENCOs and Teaching Assistants
-Helping students to learn self-regulation techniques, through a lot of guidance

Essential Criteria:
-Have QTS or be working towards it and/ or evidence of teaching experience for at least one year.
-Have a right to work in the UK (A Valid Visa)
-Two recent child/vulnerable adult-based references, covering the last 2 years
-A relevant DBS/Police checks
-Access to bicycle, car or near main bus routes
-Able to work 8.30-3.30, 5 days per week, term time only

Essential Criteria:

  • Able to teach English to pupils with SEMH and/ or Autism. At times you may be asked to teach other subjects. Teaching resources are provided.
  • Right to work in the UK (A Valid Visa)
  • Relevant references and DBS/Police checks
  • Able to work 8.30-3.30, 3-5 days per week, term time only

The pay rate is £19.00 an hour. The day is 7 hours with an unpaid 30 minute lunch break. Your daily rate of pay would be £123.50* but with the potential to earn more.

Pay: Five Education operates a PAYE payroll; this is the most transparent way to be paid with no hidden fees such as admin fee or employer's NI. Please note pay rate is for illustration and does include holiday pay.
