Catering Assistant
Lloyd Recruitment Services, representing a renowned educational institution based on the outskirts of East Grinstead, are currently seeking a Catering Assistant to join their team during term time only.
As a Catering Assistant, you will play a crucial role in meal preparation, serving students and maintaining kitchen cleanliness. This position demands enthusiasm for food service and an ability to thrive in a dynamic setting.

What's in it for you?
- £12.00 - £15.00 per hour (up to 30 hours a week)
- Monday to Friday, 9:30am - 3:30pm (hours can be shortened)
- Term Time only (36 weeks)
- Free parking - must have own transport due to location
- DBS check (paid for)
Responsibilities
- Assist the School Cook in preparing meals, with a focus on vegetables, salads, fruits and cold dishes
- Efficiently set up serving areas for lunch service
- Maintain cleanliness, presentation and stock levels of designated areas
- Adhere strictly to the cleaning schedule for spot cleaning, pre/post-use and daily/weekly tasks
- Sweep and mop the dining hall floor and wash the kitchen utensils as needed
- Collaborate with the School Cook to accommodate special dietary needs
- Prepare contingency plans and act as a substitute when required
- Report maintenance issues promptly and manage stock rotation to minimise waste
- Ensure compliance with Hazard Awareness and Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures
- Store food products at appropriate temperatures to maintain safety standards
- Uphold kitchen hygiene standards and practice personal hygiene
- Organise the kitchen and store equipment properly
- Wash the kitchen staff uniforms and clean cloths
- Promote and maintain high health and safety standards in the workplace
Essentials
- NVQ Level 2 Food Preparation & Cookery (or equivalent)
- Level 2/3 Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
- Previous experience working in a kitchen
- Knowledge of food & safety, hygiene, and health & safety legislation
- Ability to work timescales
- Work under pressure
- Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people
- Must have own transport due to location
