We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an SEMH school in Barkingside, working across both our primary and secondary sites.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll work with students who need extra support to engage in their learning, manage their emotions, and build resilience. This role offers the unique opportunity to work across both our primary and secondary sites, providing a wide range of experience in supporting students of various ages and developmental stages. You'll be part of a collaborative team, dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for every student.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support to students with SEMH needs, helping them navigate social and emotional challenges in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to deliver tailored support and interventions.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
  • Assist in implementing individualized behaviour and learning plans, adapting your approach to the needs of both primary and secondary students.
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour, using a calm and proactive approach.
  • Foster a safe and supportive environment that promotes emotional well-being and encourages each student's personal and academic growth.

What The School is Looking For

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is essential, ideally in a school or similar setting.
  • Qualifications: A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is desirable, along with additional training in behavior management or mental health support.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and connect with both primary and secondary students. Patience, empathy, and resilience are essential.
  • Adaptability: A flexible approach to working with students of different age groups, and an ability to adjust support strategies as needed.
