Environmental Laboratory Technician

This role is for a laboratory technician within the mechanical and climatic test department. The role is based in our comprehensive mechanical and climatic test laboratories in Stevenage, although there may also be a requirement to support work at MBDA Henlow from time to time

Job Title: Environmental Laboratory Technician

Salary: circa £30,000 (depending on experience)

Location: Stevenage (we may be able to offer a relocation package for this role)

Dynamic (hybrid) working: typically, 5 days per week on-site, due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship.

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team

The opportunity:

You will join a team of around 30 test engineers, facility engineers and lab technicians who support the effective running and maintenance of the laboratory.

This role will involve conducting a wide range of tasks in support of maintenance and test activities, including;

  • Calibration of measurement devices
  • Validation of test equipment
  • Setting up hardware for testing
  • Supporting vibration, shock and temperature testing
  • Supporting maintenance of complex electro-mechanical equipment
  • Detailed record keeping
  • Administration activities

The Mechanical and Climatic Test Department is a dynamic and growing team. The core role of the department is to conduct mechanical and climatic testing on MBDA products and components to provide information to design teams and evidence for certification. To achieve this the department also maintains a test laboratory with comprehensive set of mechanical and climatic test facilities to meet the testing needs of the project teams in MBDA.

This is an exciting time to join the department as we are currently undergoing a significant expansion project which concludes in 2026 with a new building and refurbishment of the existing facilities.

What we're looking for from you:

  • You will have a practical engineering background, with experience as an engineering technician.
  • Experience of working with aerospace equipment and data capture systems would be advantageous.
  • Attention to detail is very important in this role
  • Experience of practical mechanical work is essential.
  • Committed team member who can work both independently and as part of a small team.
  • Self motived and reliable.
  • Detail oriented and able to work collaboratively.
  • Awareness of environmental engineering (vibration, shock, structural, climatic)
