Job Title: Senior Syndicate Accountant
Location: London (hybrid working)
Contract Length: 6 months
Role Objectives:
To manage accounting and reporting activities ensuring the accuracy and consistency of underlying data, and to liaise with external and internal customers to formulate and implement policy
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Detailed awareness of the Finance business plan to appropriately align service delivery
- Contribute to the development of team's business plan in order to maximize productivity and performance
- Participate in all internal meetings, as required, in order to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice
- Manage the development of solutions to change requirements placed on the Finance function to ensure the successful delivery of objectives
- Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
- Contribute and manage the refinement of process, procedures and systems to continuously improve the efficiency of accounting activities
- Provide high level advice, guidance and information on financial matters to support decision making and improve understanding on financial management
- Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including internal and external auditors, to ensure service delivery meets customer expectations
- Develop relationships in line with the business plan to support the achievement of business objectives
- Manage the preparation and maintenance of accurate accounting records in accordance with internal procedures and statutory requirements to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, codes of conduct and best practice guidelines
- Manage the preparation and maintenance of accurate accounting records to meet business needs
- Manage the production of accurate financial returns required by internal and external bodies and regulators to meet reporting deadlines
- Oversee the production of reports and accounts ensuring accurate reporting and Management Information in line with respective timescales
- Manage a team to ensure the overall output and quality of the service provided by the team is to an appropriate high standard
- Motivate and develop the team so as to ensure the required standards of performance, and support the continuing professional development of all team members
- Manage, develop and organize the team to ensure staff resource is appropriately allocated to fit business needs
- Actively motivate the team and act as catalyst for action and change within their finance team and the wider department
- Further develop the team through the running of periodic training update sessions to ensure sharing of topical accounting, business and working practices issues across the department
- Be an example to the rest of Finance as a person with an unshakeable customer led mindset to encourage this thinking throughout Finance
- Work with more junior team members to encourage their career development.
Skills/Requirements:
- Qualified Accountant (CA, ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
- Experience within an insurance organisation is essential
- Lloyds experience
- Excellent knowledge of relevant current statutory, legal and regulatory accounting requirements
- In depth understanding of best practice accounting
- Excellent Knowledge of relevant accounting software and tools
- A high level of numeracy and literacy
- Attention to detail
- Effective time management skills with the ability to manage priorities to meet strict deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Teamwork - able to collaborate and work flexibly with others
- Problem solving skills
- Ability to generate solutions
