We are looking for a compassionate, experienced, and highly motivated PMLD Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team in Bedford. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting students with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), fostering their development and helping them reach their full potential within a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Day rate: £85 - £95

Key Responsibilities of a PMLD Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).
  • Assist in developing and implementing individual education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with teachers and other professionals.
  • Support students with physical needs, including personal care, mobility, and feeding, while ensuring their dignity and safety.
  • Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment for all pupils.
  • Work closely with the SEN team to monitor progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Use specialist equipment and resources to engage students in learning activities.
  • Collaborate with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student development.

Requirements of a PMLD Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with PMLD in an educational setting.
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to working with students with complex needs.
  • Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or other communication methods is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and safeguarding policies.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning, SEN diploma, or equivalent).
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
