**Secondary Teaching Assistant - Special Needs School

  • Job Type: Temporary (Long-term) 5 days per week, possibly 4 - starting September 2025
  • Location: West Berkshire, Newbury and Thatcham

We are seeking a dedicated Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant SEND team/School in West Berkshire. There are positions at sites in Newbury and Thatcham!

This role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about education and excel in behaviour management. Ideally, you will have experience of SEMH (Social and Emotional Mental Health), Autism and EBD. However, we have placed people here with no school experience, but have transferable experience form the care or mental health sector. You will be working with students ages 11 to 18 who genuinely appreciate the support of the staff here!

You will be an integral part of a dynamic secondary education environment, providing essential support to both students and teachers.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of daily lessons, ensuring materials and resources are ready for class activities.
  • Provide one-to-one support to students, aiding both their educational and personal development.
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a conducive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress and identify any additional needs that may require further attention.
  • Participate actively in school meetings and professional development training sessions.
  • Uphold and support the school's policies and educational goals.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a secondary education setting, with a strong focus on supporting young learners.
  • Demonstrated ability in effective behaviour management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with students and staff at all levels.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A proactive approach to work and a strong commitment to enhancing student development.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain an enhanced DBS check.
