We are recruiting for a Buyer to join our Walsall based client.

The business specialises in providing automation solutions and control systems for industrial processes. Their services encompass designing, building, and maintaining control panels and automation systems that help streamline manufacturing and production operations. They focus on improving efficiency, reliability, and safety through advanced technology and innovative engineering solutions. Their offerings include custom-built control panels, automation software, and integrated systems that cater to various industries such as automotive, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and more. Additionally, they provide support services including installation, testing, and ongoing maintenance to ensure optimal performance of the systems they deliver.

As a Buyer your role will be responsible for the procurement and management of inventory in a cost effective and timely manner. The buyer position requires a detail orientated professional, who possesses excellent communication and relationship building skills, coupled with the ability to work under a somewhat time pressured environment to satisfy production demands. The role requires the ability to influence buying decisions to guarantee preferred terms with regards to quality, cost and delivery.

As a Buyer, you will need to have/be:

  • Experience as a Buyer ideally gained within a manufacturing environment
  • Relationship building skills
  • Strong negotiation skills

Details:

  • Salary: £30, 000 - £35, 000
  • Working Hours: Monday - Thursday 8.00am - 5.15pm and Friday 8.00am - 12.00pm
  • Location: Walsall (100% onsite)
  • Duration: Permanent

Role of Buyer:

  • Build and maintain supplier relationships, providing clear communication on day-to-day procurement activities.
  • Liaise with the wider team when making buying decisions to ensure the 'best decision' is made to suit the organisations strategy.
  • Ability to liaise with customers as applicable when making supply chain decisions.
  • Escalate issues that cannot be resolved within the wider team to the Procurement Manager.
  • Manage demand report on a daily basis to ensure any demand is captured and placed in accordance with minimum order quantity and minimum order value/Lead Time information and receipts are being managed against changing demand
  • Update/establish safety stock levels against up to date/forecasted demand to achieve continuity of supply
  • Work with the team on supplier rejects with a view to facilitating problem solving and corrective action and pending quality concerns.
  • Work with current/potential suppliers to negotiate cost reduction
  • Reject/defer cost increases from suppliers via negotiation
  • Identify methods to increase buying power with the organisations selected suppliers to increase preferential terms and in turn, result in cost reduction/supplier consolidation.
  • Ensure payment terms are in line with/exceed company standard terms with all suppliers.
  • Have the ability to negotiate discounted terms and rebate agreements to offer the business advantageous terms.
  • Ability to manage spend to limit the amount of stock being held, including obsolescence.
  • Diligently manage purchase price variance the commercial team to guarantee pricing variation is being captured and relayed back to the customer.
  • To work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to establish and maintain working relationships.
  • Engage in training/team building exercises to promote cross functional working
  • Support/facilitate project work when required
  • Manage suppliers against requested/promised date information in accordance with Procurement objectives
  • Work with suppliers on lead time reduction by negotiation of SLA's/blanket orders.
